The key scope involved the demolition of a severely weather-damaged timber bridge on Geary’s Flat Road. The structure, no longer fit for traffic following repeated flood events, was replaced with a precast concrete bridge designed for long-term durability and minimal maintenance.

 

The new bridge structure features reinforced concrete abutments and headstocks, precast deck units, and improved load capacity, ensuring reliable access for forestry vehicles, emergency services, and the general public.

 

To support the new bridge, GCM carried out associated civil works including roadway realignment, road widening, and stabilisation of surrounding embankments to improve safety and drainage in a high-rainfall area.

 

All works were completed using locally sourced materials and labour, aligning with the project’s focus on supporting regional economies.

 

This upgrade not only restores critical access through the forest but also enhances resilience against future weather events and supports ongoing forest management, tourism, and bushfire response efforts.
